Unsure of CBD it’s uses and benefits – not to mention its legality? Read on, the Cannabis plant contains many cannabinoids, cannabidiol (CBD) is one of these compounds. It boasts a wealth of health and well being benefits.

Cannabidiol (more commonly known as CBD) has experienced a surge in popularity in recent years, part due to its now availability.  Also largely due to the increased amount of research into the cannabis plant and the valuable compounds found within it.

Previously viewed as an option for people with various types of pain. Many people are now using CBD for treatment of skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, as a sleep aid, and of course largely for anxiety, stress and depression. CBD  is also now gaining traction among wellness and fitness fans, as part of their well being program.

There is a huge list of potential health and well being benefits CBD can bring, but most commonly used for pain management and as a sleep aid. CBD has great natural anti inflammatory properties, pain often stems from inflammation of some sort. Therefore CBD is a great supplement to take to combat this.

Is CBD Oil the same as cannabis?

CBD is one of over 100 chemical compounds known as cannabinoids, found in the cannabis plant. It’s a naturally occurring substance, that is extracted and mixed with a carrier oil. Often hemp seed or MCT coconut oil to create CBD oil.

However, unlike the most well-known cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC). CBD is not psychoactive, meaning that it won’t make you ‘high’ or ‘stoned – the sensations most commonly associated with cannabis.

Can CBD alleviate pain?

The simple answer is yes CBD can help alleviate pain, but there are occasions when it may not.

Last year, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) classed CBD as medicine, providing it meets a strict set of “safety, quality and efficiency standards”.

Roger G Pertwee, a professor at the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen, said CBD is present in two medicines available in the UK – Sativex and Epidiolex.

He Said “Sativex is used to relieve cancer pain and treat multiple sclerosis, whilst Epidiolex is used to treat childhood epilepsy.”
